The word is derived from the Old High German bacho, meaning “buttock”, “ham” or “side of bacon”, and is cognate with the Old French bacon.

International Bacon Day is an unofficial observance and was established in 2004!

Why do you care? Uhm because you LOVE it!!

Unless you are one of the 15% of Americans who practice veganism.

Which if you are, good for you! You still do not have to miss out on this yummy day! Turkey bacon, macon, and vegetarian bacon are great alternative choices.

“Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.” -Doug Larson

I can’t help but to love the stuff, so I will be celebrating this unofficial holiday..I am not sure how, or where, but I will have bacon in my mouth!

Bacon Art!!

Not only is there bacon art, it is AWESOME, bacon art! I ran across this artist a couple of years ago on Insta. I instantly followed him because we had something so very special in common. We both LOVE bacon.. and art, so I guess we have a couple things in common. I really like Richard, the @BaconArts niche, and I have really enjoyed watching all of his pieces fall into so many talented hands, as well as drooling over the amazing creations and recipes he has been collaborating. Okay now that I have you drooling, let see who else is in our piggy realm.

Who else loves bacon?! Here are a few celebs who don’t mind the calories.

“I’m not sure how healthy bacon is in general, but I know it’s incredibly delicious.”

-Gwyneth Paltrow

“When I cook for my family on Christmas, I make feijoada, a South American dish of roasted and smoked meats like ham, pork, beef, lamb, and bacon – all served with black beans and rice. It’s festive but different.”

-Maya Angelou

“I blend my green drink every morning. I also fix my son a full-on American breakfast with bacon and toast.”

-Liz Phair

“I always use my ‘Holy Trinity’ which is salt, olive oil and bacon. My motto is, ‘bacon always makes it better.’ I try to use bacon and pork products whenever it can.”

-Anne Burrell

“Bacon. Let’s talk about bacon. There’s no meat more glorious than bacon. You can add it to pasta instead of cheese. You can stick it in a sandwich, er… instead of cheese.”

-Rob Manuel

“I love bacon so much I would marry it.” -Me, I said that, just now.

Okay, okay, I am sure there are 1,000 other things I could have talked about, like closing on the house, or Baylor starting school, but when in Rome.. ;D
